How much television is your child consuming? It might be more than you think. On average, children ages 6 to 11 spend 28 hours a week in front of a TV, while children ages 2 to 5 spend even more time watching television – 32 hours a week. Those statistics could be even more troubling for parents when you consider that two thirds of all programming contains some sort of violence. Dr. Jamie Ostrov from University at Buffalo’s Department of Psychology appeared on Winging It! Buffalo Style to discuss what this exposure could mean for your child’s development and offer some tips for parents to start watching television with their children in an active manner rather than a passive one.
