Western New York wouldn’t be such a great place to live without the people that make a difference in our community. One of those people is seventeen-year-old Suneel Ram, a junior at St. Joe’s Collegiate Institute. Suneel wants to make his mark on the world, but because of a rare genetic disorder, he will have less time do to so. He’s is one of the 20 thousand young men in this country who were born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His family and friends started the Suneel’s Light Foundation in his name, in effort to find a cure for this devastating disease. Winging It! Buffalo Style‘s Lauren Hall has been spending time with Suneel and his supporters this summer, as she gears up to compete in Suneel’s Celebrity Gala, a ballroom dancing competition to raise funds and awareness for critical research efforts and boys who are living with Duchenne.
Lauren and her instructor at Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Amherst have been hard at work perfecting their fox trot routine, but their chances of winning first place will only partially depend on their performance. Every dollar Lauren raises for the cause will also contribute to her overall score, and there are several ways you can help.
- Vote for Lauren now at www.suneelscelebritygala.com. Each vote costs $1 and will go towards funding important research to help find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
- Visit Sweet Jenny‘s in Williamsville between now and Friday, September 5th. Proceeds from the “Perk-a-licious” (coffee ice cream with chocolate covered espresso beans) sandwich will go towards Lauren’s fundraising efforts.
- Visit Marco’s Deli on Hertel Avenue or in the SUNY Buffalo Commons between now and Friday, September 5th. Proceeds from “The Lorena” (Lauren in Italian) will be donated to Lauren’s fundraising efforts.
- Come to Comedy Sportz Buffalo on Saturday, August 30th! Half the ticket sales from the 7pm performance will be donated towards the cause. You’ll even get to see Lauren and CW-23’s Matt Snyder participate in some of the games!
