Cart or caddie, public course or private, nine holes or eighteen. No matter how you swing it, golf is a beloved pastime for thousands of Western New Yorkers. But it hasn’t always been that way. As the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy prepares to celebrate 120 years of golf in Delaware Park, Winging It’s Lauren Hall visited the location of Western New York’s first golf hole, located across from where the Buffalo History Museum sits today. Trustee Alan Bozer explains that it was a visitor from Niagara on the Lake that first brought the game to the original location of the Country Club of Buffalo, creating a hole with just a tomato can.
