Students at Buffalo’s Highgate Heights Elementary School had an out of this world visitor on Monday.
Captain Wendy Lawrence flew on four space shuttle missions during her time as a NASA astronaut. Before that, she served in the US Navy as a helicopter pilot. These days, she travels by more traditional methods, to talk to groups across the country about aiming for the moon when it comes to their own personal goals.
Captain Lawrence’s trip to Buffalo was sponsored by the Western New York Women’s Foundation, who brought her to town in hopes she would inspire other women to pursue careers in the male-dominated fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.
