John Tomczak, Ava Karet and Derrick Tang aren’t your average high school students – sure, they have math, English, reading and science. But they’ve also added one pretty unique extra-curricular to their schedule – robotics!
The Nichols School trio stopped by our studios today to talk about how they made their robot, The Great Gonzo, and also to share how their experience went at their first world championship robot competition in St. Louis.
They were among teams from across the globe, including countries as far away as Israel!
They treated us to a quick demonstration of their hard work as they made the Gonzo spin and “shoot” a ball onto the floor. Just an FYI – the robot is capable of shooting the ball more than 6-feet in the air but that means it would’ve hit our lights.
